Fameeda is an experienced regulatory lawyer with particular expertise in healthcare regulation.

She has worked in-house at the General Medical Council and has spent eight years in private practice. This background gives her a fuller understanding of the regulatory sector and how it operates.

Professional Discipline

Fameeda’s experience includes assisting and advising regulatory clients in relation to fitness to practise investigations, witness interviews, evidential requirements, charge drafting, the merits of subsequent challenges to decisions of the regulator, preparations for hearing and appeals. She has acted on behalf of key regulatory bodies including:

Fameeda has handled a number of criminal prosecutions in the Magistrates and Crown Courts on behalf of regulators. She has advised the Security Industry Authority in relation to the regulation of the private security industry and has conducted numerous investigations and successful statutory prosecutions against companies, directors and unlicensed individuals.

She also has experience in advising police authorities on potential criminal prosecutions for gross negligence manslaughter and corporate manslaughter offences, within a health or social care setting.

Appeals and Legal Challenges

Fameeda acts on behalf of regulatory clients including the CQC, in respect of first tier tribunal appeals made by providers, against enforcement action and decisions taken in relation to registration.

She also acts on behalf of NHS Trusts, GPs, Care Providers (and other CQC regulated service providers) in relation to:

Fameeda has been involved in many complex, sensitive, high profile matters over the years, including the investigation of registrants on behalf of the NMC, following the Mid-Staffordshire Inquiry and as part of the team representing the Coroner on the Inquests into the Hillsborough stadium disaster.

She regularly works on cases with large volumes of documentation and efficiently manages the review process and disclosure, including electronic management on systems such as Lextranet/DTI.

Fameeda is a member of the Association of Regulatory and Disciplinary Lawyers.
