Career

Sophie has considerable experience across a range of litigation areas including general liability and professional indemnity. Sophie’s particular expertise lies in the deft management of investigations and prosecutions by regulators, and in the defence of health and safety and resource management prosecutions, as well as advising insurers on statutory liability matters.

Sophie is also at the forefront of two increasingly dominant risk areas of insurance law – climate change and cyber technology. She has a keen interest in emerging risks, particularly in climate-related liability for professionals and directors, including climate litigation risks arising from managed retreat and climate adaptation, as well as how insurance and insurers will respond to climate liability.

As Robertsons’ cyber law and technology specialist, Sophie advises insureds and corporate clients on their cyber risks and responses to malware and data breach incidents. She regularly presents to insurers and brokers on cyber risk and regulation, and on the insurance implications of cyber incidents. Under general liability policies, Sophie has also acted on defamation and intellectual property claims.

Sophie is regularly sought by insurers to provide indemnity advice and assists in the drafting of liability policies, particularly in the cyber liability space
