Career

After qualifying in 1991 and working for a specialist personal injury firm in London and firms in East Sussex and Tunbridge Wells, Martin joined Warners as a partner in 2018 and heads the firm’s specialist Court of Protection team.

His work covers contentious and non-contentious Court of Protection applications, deputyship general management, powers of attorney and trusts for vulnerable beneficiaries. As a panel deputy he is often appointed in cases of family breakdown and financial abuse.

Martin has lectured and written extensively on Court of Protection and elderly client matters. His books include A Practitioner’s Guide to the Court of Protection (Bloomsbury) (author of first three editions and contributor to new 4th edition, 2018); joint editor and contributor to the Law Society’s Elderly Client Handbook (3rd edition, contributor to 4th and 5th editions); contributor to Finance & Law for the Older Client (LexisNexis), Court of Protection Practice (LexisNexis, 2019) and Elderly Clients: A Precedent Manual (Jordans, 2016).

He has lectured at conferences for Central Law Training, LexisNexis, the Society of Trust & Estate Practitioners (STEP) and Solicitors for the Elderly (SFE).
