Interview with…
Anjan Neupane, Partner
What do you see as the main points that differentiate Neupane Law Associates from your competitors?
Neupane Law Associates is regularly involved in complex, high-value matters that require both international standards of legal work and a nuanced understanding of Nepal’s regulatory and commercial environment. What differentiates us is our ability to handle sophisticated cross-border transactions and disputes while remaining deeply embedded in the local market. Clients value our commercial judgment, execution capability, and our ability to navigate regulatory and practical challenges efficiently.
Which practices do you see growing in the next 12 months? What are the drivers behind that?
Private equity and venture capital, shareholder disputes, construction arbitration, M&A, and project finance are all expected to see sustained growth. This is driven by recent foreign investment reforms, increased private sector participation in manufacturing and technology-led businesses, and the continued maturation of Nepal’s IT sector.
What's the main change you've made in the firm that will benefit clients?
We have strengthened the firm by expanding our team while retaining senior lawyers, ensuring continuity and depth across key practice areas. At the same time, we have developed sector-focused teams for transactional and disputes work, without creating rigid internal divisions. This allows us to draw on cross-practice experience where matters demand it. We have also institutionalised proactive client communication through regular legal updates on proposed and upcoming regulatory changes.
Is technology changing the way you interact with your clients, and the services you can provide them?
Yes. Technology has become integral to how we advise clients, particularly on cross-border matters. Digital collaboration tools, secure data rooms, and virtual engagement allow us to manage transactions and disputes efficiently across jurisdictions. Internally, technology is also improving project management and responsiveness, enabling us to deliver complex work more efficiently without compromising quality.
We are also one of the early adapters of Nepal focused case law research tools.
Can you give us a practical example of how you have helped a client to add value to their business?
We have advised clients on multi-jurisdictional fundraising rounds involving multiple private equity and venture capital investors, where careful structuring and regulatory strategy were critical to closing the transaction. We have also acted in joint venture arbitrations involving what is potentially the largest damages claim pursued in Nepal to date. In both cases, our role extended beyond legal analysis to strategic coordination and execution, allowing clients to manage risk and achieve commercially favourable outcomes.
Are clients looking for stability and strategic direction from their law firms - where do you see the firm in three years’ time?
Clients increasingly expect their law firms to be long-term strategic partners rather than transactional advisers. Neupane Law Associates is already established as a leading corporate law firm in Nepal, and over the next three years our focus is on consolidating that position through deeper expertise, a clear and sustainable partner track, and selective lateral hires where required. We also intend to continue integrating technology and AI-enabled tools to make our practice more robust, efficient, and cost-effective for clients.
