Position

Lewis is a Legal Director working in the Weightmans Police Team based in our Liverpool office. He joined Weightmans as a qualified solicitor in 2012 and has a wide range of experience in handling civil claims.

Lewis advises police forces across England and Wales regarding a range of civil liabilities including false imprisonment, assault, malicious prosecution, misfeasance in public office, negligence, data protection issues, and claims under the Human Rights Act and Equality Act. He regularly deals with Judicial Review claims issued against police forces and local authorities.

Lewis also frequently handles high value personal injury claims brought by police officers for stress at work or arising from serious accidents sustained on duty.

In recent years Lewis has handled a number of high-profile, complex cases involving public order incidents and protests. He has also successfully handled large group litigation of national importance such as the claim brought by over 400 Royalty and Specialist Protection Officers against the Metropolitan Police for unpaid overtime and allowances totalling approximately £25 million - Prior & Others v The Commissioner of Police of the Metropolis [2023] Civ 32.

Lewis also regularly deals with Judicial Review claims issued against police forces and local authorities.
