Position
Melanie qualified as a solicitor in 1994, previously having worked a hospital doctor. She joined Weightmans in 2001 and was made partner in 2006. Since 1995, Melanie has specialised in defendant clinical negligence claims.
Melanie’s specialisms include cases of catastrophic injury, claims arising out of non-delegable duty of care, and other matters of high profile and sensitive claims, sometimes with media involvement. Melanie has experience in handling claims with mentally ill unrepresented claimants and provides training and to support to colleagues and NHS Trusts in connection with this specialist work. Melanie also represents clients at mediation and other forms of alternative dispute resolution, provides training to clients on learning from claims and works with NHS Trusts on DNACPR issues.

Fellow of the Royal Society of Medicine; vice-president and honorary secretary of the Birmingham Medicolegal society; registered with the GMC as a non-practising medical practitioner.
