Beverley Beale

Weightmans LLP, East Midlands

Position

Beverley is a member of the Office of the Public Guardian’s Panel of professional deputies of last resort  and has in excess of 25 years’ experience advising clients and their families in Court of Protection applications and proceedings as well as being personally appointed to manage and safeguard the affairs of people who may be at risk financially. She currently supports around 180 individuals who lack capacity to manage their financial and property affairs.

Beverley joined Weightmans in June 2019 and has seen a steady growth of referrals into the Court of Protection team which is reflective both of the wealth of expertise and experience that the team is able to offer and of the personable and compassionate approach taken with all of her clients. Although based in the East Midlands (Leicestershire, Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire) the team operates nationally with clients referred from each of the Weightmans’ regional offices.

A Dementia Friend Champion and member of Solicitors for the Elderly, Beverley’s focus is always on the individual, achieving their goals and safeguarding their best interests.

As a Panel Deputy, she deals with challenging, complex and sensitive issues for some of the most vulnerable clients: issues including financial fraud and misappropriation, family discord, wealth protection, the conduct of general litigation and the bringing of claims on the client’s behalf, domiciliary and care home funding and benefits reviews.

Beverley’s duty to make decisions on behalf of her vulnerable clients cannot be fully discharged without coming to as full an understanding of the client as a whole as is possible. A thorough but considerate approach is always necessary and wherever possible the engagement of family and friends is sought. The overarching need is to act in the best interests of the client to safeguard them from risk and support the achievement of personal goals so as to enable the client to maintain as full and independent a life as possible.

Beverley advises on all aspects of private client work including estate administrations, Lasting Powers of Attorney and will drafting.
