Career

Robin focuses mainly on media related litigation in all its forms, including defamation, libel, privacy, intellectual property and contractual disputes. He also advises on general commercial litigation in other industry sectors.

Robin has acted for many leading media organisations. He has been Private Eye’s lawyer for over twenty years and his clients have also included the Telegraph newspaper group, the Mirror Group, Penguin Books and Harper Collins.

He has extensive experience of litigating in both the High Court Queen’s Bench and Chancery Divisions, and in the Court of Appeal. He also spends time undertaking defamation pre-publication work, in particular for Private Eye, and dealing with general commercial litigation outside of the media industry.

Robin joined Ince in 2014, after training and qualifying at another leading media law firm in 1983.

Highlight Matters- Acting for the Daily and Sunday Telegraph this year in successfully defending the high profile proceedings brought by Sir Philip Green to prevent publication of allegations of sexual and racial harassment. - Acting for Private Eye in many claims and complaints. This includes successfully resisting both at first instance and on appeal an injunction application by Michael Napier, the former president of the Law Society seeking to prevent publication of disciplinary proceedings taken against for breach of professional conduct.- Last year he acted for Private Eye in successfully resisting an application by Hertfordshire Police to produce its subscription list in order, so it was alleged, that they could identify a suspect. - Acting for SAE Education this year in its successful appeal to the Supreme Court over whether its education service were exempt from VAT.
