Career

Baljit qualified as a solicitor in May 2006 having trained in private practice. She joined a Local Authority in 2009 where she was promoted to senior managing solicitor of the legal safeguarding team.

Baljit joined Wilsons as a supervising solicitor in 2013 and on 1st July 2016 she was appointed as a partner.

Baljit is a specialist solicitor in private and public law children applications, contact, residence, special guardianship, child abduction, adoption, divorce, financial disputes, domestic violence and injunctions.

Having worked for a Local Authority for over three years, Baljit has extensive experience in advising and representing clients within care proceedings. Baljit has handled complex care cases involving non-accidental injury, sexual abuse and chronic neglect. Baljit’s passion for children law work stems from being a mother herself and wanting to ensure that the right decisions are made for vulnerable children.

Baljit has extensive advocacy experience and has represented clients at fully contested hearings including the cross examination of expert witnesses.

She has undertaken pro bono work in East London to try and help the most vulnerable in the community and has provided legal training workshops to both social workers and junior solicitors.

Baljit won Family legal aid lawyer of the year at the 2016 LALY awards.

Education

Baljit Bains read law at the University of Westminster and graduated in 2002.
