Career

Alana advises both nonprofit organizations, and their donors on a wide range of legal, fiscal, and regulatory issues. Dual qualified as an attorney (New York State) and a UK solicitor (England and Wales), Alana has a particular interest in international projects and group structures, including cross-border giving and fundraising, tax and fiduciary issues connected to overseas offices and operations, intragroup cost-sharing and services, and the establishment and operation of ‘dual qualified' charity structures which enable tax-efficient giving in the US and the UK. Choice of jurisdiction and the terms of international group affiliations are particular projects on which Alana is able to bring her experience of international projects to bear. Alana also advises universities on international fundraising and study abroad operations, and donor advised funds, commercial giving intermediaries, and 'friends of' organizations. Alana has a passion for facilitating philanthropy in its many guises, and has worked with philanthropists Donor Advised Funds, and family foundations in the US, UK and globally.
