Career

After a successful career in the music industry as a performer, producer and songwriter, Pete Bott trained as a Solicitor and qualified at Blacks Solicitors in 2012.  Following a move to London in 2015 to work for two specialist music law firms, Pete returned to Blacks in 2022 as a Partner and Head of Music Law.

With first-hand experience of being an artist in the music industry, Pete is well-regarded for his ability to explain complex legal issues to his artist clients in an easy to understand and practical way.

He works closely with his clients’ managers and other members of their teams to provide rounded and pragmatic advice to help artists sustain long-term careers in music.  His artist clients include arena-level acts such as Bring Me The Horizon and Hybrid Minds, as well as emerging artists.

Pete also carries out business affairs for several independent record labels and assists their in-house teams in negotiating and finalising paperwork. He advises on all manner of music matters, including contracts for recording, distribution, publishing, management, production, merchandising and licensing.

Pete was shortlisted by the Yorkshire Legal Awards in 2014 as a “Rising Star”.  He has given presentations and seminars at key UK and overseas music industry conferences such as Reeperbahn and Output.  Pete has also taken part in music industry panels and legal advice clinics for organisations including BBC Introducing, AIM and PRS for Music.
