Alex is the partner running the dispute resolution and commercial litigation team.

People come to Gannons to resolve their difficult and complex business disputes.  Alex's team tries hard to avoid litigation as litigation is expensive and slow but for those cases where it cannot be avoided we field the expertise and the appropriate team.

Alex has a great many years of experience of practical and commercial problem-solving and in business disputes, experience counts.  Alex runs a very confident and astute team. Their style is to identify the pressure points, apply intelligence and a solid knowledge of the litigation system to go on to lever results.  The team is set up to deal with complex cases, often of high value, as cost-effectively as possible.

Shareholder and partnership disputes

The teams resolves a great number of shareholder and partnership disputes.  Thry are well versed in the practical issues that arise, such as a lack of paperwork, accusations of wrongdoing or forfeiture of capital and Alex's team knows how to get around such problems.  There is often an overlap on tax and valuation of interests in businesses and Gannons co-ordinates advice so that all issues are dealt with and key factors do not fall through the cracks.

Employment law litigation and disputes

Alex works for directors, executives and employers on high value claims. The team handles cases in the Employment Tribunal, county court and higher courts.  He takes cases through all stages, from the disciplinary hearing and dismissal through to issuing a claim.  The team has specialist experience in running breach of employment contract claims, often involving bonus payments or restrictive covenants. As the worker economy becomes more transient, Gannons has developed a strong background in both the TUPE regulations and defending team moves.

Commercial contracts

Alex advises on breach of any type of commercial contract.  He deals with clients who want to terminate a contract early, as well as more specialist areas of contentious law such as ‘no-oral modification’ clauses.  The sectors he has been involved with are diverse.  His approach is that the strategy for dealing with the contract and the allegations is of greatest importance.

Settlement of disputes

The team always considers settlement and how that can be achieved.  Mediation is popular for many types of disputes.  Alex prepares cases for mediation and selects and presents the evidence to put his clients in the best position for a good outcome.  He advises on the full range of alternatives to litigation, including undertakings to court.
