Career

My name is James Brown, I am a solicitor based principally in our Cambridge Office, but represent parents nationwide. I joined the SEN Legal Team in December 2016 as a trainee solicitor and qualified as a solicitor in March 2019.

I represent parents in the SEND Tribunal in Appeal’s against the contents of EHC Plans, refusal to issue EHC Plans, refusal to carry out EHC Needs Assessments, cease to maintain and Disability Discrimination Claims.

I also specialise in issues relating to Transport for children and young people with SEN, and also in Exclusions from school.

My work also includes conducting Judicial Review proceedings against Local Authorities from issuing Pre-Action Protocol correspondence, through to lodging Claims in the High Court and seeing the case through to completion.

The opportunity to work for SEN Legal has enabled me to combine my legal practice with my interest of special educational needs, to help children and families secure the correct support they need. Prior to working with SEN Legal, I undertook a work experience placement at a national firm supporting adults in the community with learning difficulties. I have also previously worked at the National Probation Service and a Criminal Defence Legal firm, often working with extremely vulnerable people. The area of special educational needs is also something of interest throughout my family and when I was growing up, with my mother formerly the regional manager of an organisation supporting adults with severe learning difficulties, but continues to provide respite services to young people now and my father who provides transport services for young people with SEN.

Personal

If I am not at work, I love spending time with my family and walking my dog Mabel, who you may have seen on our social media pages! I also enjoy football (watching and playing) and running, recently completing the London Marathon for charity.
