Career
Marcus obtained his PhD in 2007 from the University of Cambridge, where his research focused on the implementation and efficiency evaluation of drive control strategies for electric propulsion systems. Prior to that, Marcus graduated from UMIST with a first class honours degree in Electrical and Electronic Engineering.
Marcus joined WP Thompson in 2015 as a part qualified patent attorney in the physics, electronics and mechanical PEM team. The focus of his work is the filing and prosecution of patent applications in the UK, Europe and overseas. He has worked in a variety of technical fields including electronics, telecommunications and artificial intelligence and machine learning software as well as areas such as mechanical and consumer goods. Marcus also has experience in preparing validity and freedom-to-operate opinions.
Prior to entering the patent profession, he worked in McLaren Automotive Ltd as part of the key engineering team that developed the McLaren P1. He also worked as a departmental lecturer (RCUK Academic Fellow) at Engineering Science Department in Oxford University between 2007 and 2010, where he led a research team in renewable energy technologies and cofounded Oxford YASA motors.
Marcus's particular area of interests and expertise are in the fields of silicon carbide SiC based power electronic circuits, high power density electric propulsion systems or high performance automotive applications and large scale turbine generator design for renewable energy applications.
