Career

A Chartered Patent Attorney, European Patent Attorney and Design Attorney, Alistair's practice involves engineering, materials science and physics-based technologies and he acts for a broad spectrum of clients, ranging from large multinational companies to SMEs and individuals. Alistair files and prosecutes patent applications worldwide for these clients, advises through infringement and validity opinions and freedom to operate opinions, and also advises on IP strategy and product clearances. Alistair also has wide experience in filing and prosecuting design applications in the UK and EU and coordinating prosecution of design applications in other territories worldwide.

Alistair's technical areas of expertise include: e-cigarettes; telecommunications; software; semiconductor fabrication; Internet TV systems; high-energy physics applications (such as radiation detectors and ion implantation devices); fingerprint imaging; cryotherapy systems; polymer films, their use in security documents and devices for detecting the authenticity of such security documents; embedded RFID technologies; and general/mechanical engineering products such as supermarket shelving and doors for computer server cabinets.

He holds an MEng (Hons) degree in Engineering and Materials Science from the University of Oxford and he is a member of the International Technology Law Association and the UNION of European Practitioners in Intellectual Property.

Alistair is also a tutor on the JDD Consultants Intellectual Property Training course, providing tuition to trainee patent attorneys in relation to the UK patent drafting examination.
