In its first three years of business, it has had several large-value and very successful contentious matters, as well as success in its wider practice of advising on estate planning and the law of trusts.

The firm: After 23 years of practice as a well-established partner in the private client sphere, John Rimmer established Advocate John Rimmer Limited as a niche private practice in 2014. John has since recruited Hollie Ranscombe, a former colleague, as an associate and Gillian Christian as a consultant to assist in contentious matters. The firm tripled turnover in its first year.

The firm is unsurpassed in quality of advice, service and propriety in its private client niche. Present and past clients include individuals, families and family offices, trustees, local and international law firms, foundations, charities, enforcement agencies, and international governments.

Advocate John Rimmer Limited is growing incrementally, maintaining its specialism of private client work. In the past year, the firm moved into larger offices (having started life in a single large room). The firm has also had some notable courtroom successes, including AB v CD, with the assistance of its consultant (Gillian Christian), and has seen turnover treble compared to its first year of trading.

Types of work undertaken: John Rimmer Advocates Ltd focuses on delivering services to the highest standard in aspects of: estate planning and wills, wealth preservation and protection, personal tax planning, trusts, charities and foundations. The work includes both non-contentious and contentious matters. It advises on prenuptial agreements and planning through trusts, and cross-border issues concerning the enforcement of financial provision orders affecting trusts (although it does not act for parties to divorce proceedings in the main divorce proceedings). It does not undertake conveyancing but will gladly arrange it for its clients and deal on their behalf.

The firm regularly undertakes probate work for overseas lawyers, and advice on drafting or application of wills under Manx law.
