Alexander has a great reputation for client client and commercial immigration practice.

He has a particular interest in complex British nationality claims, discretionary applications and family-based migration, including international adoption and surrogacy. Alexander has extensive experience in working with private clients, including investors, entrepreneurs and private family offices.

Alexander has worked with Members of Parliament in drafting amendments to legislation. He worked as a legal adviser to the successful campaign for British nationality for the Chagossian community, which resulted in an amendment to the British Nationality Act 1981, allowing adult Chagos Islanders to register for UK citizenship, as well as successful amendments to redress the effects of CSI requirements on European nationals accessing British citizenship.

Alexander has also written an expert briefing published by the All Party Parliamentary Group on Migration on understanding the immigration predicaments faced by families caught up in the Windrush Scandal.

Alexander writes extensively on specialist immigration matters, including articles on immigration options for entrepreneurs and investors and intricacies of nationality and citizenship for publications such as the Financial Times, Free Movement and LexisNexis. Together with Gráinne Mellon of Garden Court Chambers, Alexander authored a chapter on Immigration Issues for International Family Law Practice Sixth edition, edited by Professor Hodson OBE (LexisNexis, 2021), and an analysis of the Nationality and Borders Act 2022 for LexisNexis.

Alexander provides expert evidence on UK immigration law matters for legal proceedings.  He has extensive experience of immigration appeals, leading cases in the First-Tier Tribunal, Upper Tribunal, Court of Appeal and Administrative Court.

Alexander qualified as a solicitor in 2010, working on private immigration, asylum and human rights cases, country guidance cases as well as participating in litigation in higher courts. In 2013 Alexander co-founded a legal practice specialising in complex nationality cases before leaving to manage the private client team in one of the world’s biggest immigration law firms, advising on corporate immigration options and working with Tech Nation advising on Global Talent visas. Alexander Finch holds a Master of Arts degree in Philosophy from the University of Cambridge.
