Senior Associate Solicitor

Katie is a Senior Associate Solicitor working within construction and engineering.

Katie joined Barton Legal in December 2023, with a wealth of experience in Litigation, Mediation, Adjudication and Arbitration.  She deals with disputes involving contractual, delay, expense, defects, design, and negligence issues. Katie has acted for medium sized companies, FTSE 350 companies and multi-national employers, contractors and individuals in relation to stadia, power plants, commercial and leisure premises and residential development projects.

As a senior member of the team, Katie: advises clients on the merits of their claim; drafts letters before action and claim documentation; assists experts in preparing their expert reports; instructs counsel to discuss advice as part of the legal team; and identifies documents for cross-examination and trial.  As part of the claim process, Katie assists clients in preparing for and attending mediation.

Katie also has extensive experience in preparing, negotiating and completing project specific (or generic framework) construction documentation, including building contracts (using JCT, NEC, FIDIC and bespoke contracts), consultant appointments, collateral warranties, deeds of novation, performance bonds, parent company guarantees, letters of intent and/or PCSAs.

Katie advises clients on the specific terms of building contracts or appointments that they are due to enter into or have recently signed up to, providing a ‘red-flag’ review that identifies any clauses that clients need to be aware of or which may cause a client difficulty in complying with or obtaining funding and/or insurance so that a commercial decision can be taken on these issues and any problems ironed out as soon as possible.

On weekends, you can find Katie playing tennis at Wetherby Tennis Club, singing as a member of the Love Pop Choir, watching her son play cricket or walking her Dachshund, who, despite little legs, can manage a few miles!
