Career

Sam trained and worked at one of Yorkshire’s leading firms for family law. He moved to Manchester in 2008 to work in the North West’s top family law team. He moved to JMW in 2011 becoming a partner in 2012. One of four partners, in the time he was a partner the department moved from tier 4 to tier 1 in Chambers and Partners. In April 2016 he and fellow partner James Brown left to start Hall Brown Family Law. In 19 months Hall Brown Family Law has grown to become the largest and one of the busiest in the North West.  Sam has a particular specialism in divorce and high net worth financial remedy proceedings and is especially well known for his sports network. In recent years he’s acted for football manager Brendan Rodgers (Liverpool and Celtic) and in the reported case of M v F [2016] involving a top premiership footballer. He currently represents 16 professional footballers from the Premier League and Championship division, including one of the best paid professional sportsmen in the World. He also acts on behalf of professionals from various other sports. As well as his sports practice he continues to act for celebrities, entrepreneurs and champions of industry with wealth in excess of £360m. A rapidly growing area of his practice is pre and post-nuptial agreements protecting assets ranging from £1million up to several hundred million pounds.  Sam is also committed to a non-confrontational approach to all family matters. Chambers and Partners 2016/2017 described him as “Brilliant and really well respected” and in 2017/2018 as “hugely empathetic, his clients will always feel he is completely on their side and he will never lose the wood for the trees.” He is particularly loved by his clients.
