  • If you have lived lawfully in the UK for a specific period of time on a visa, you may be able to apply for Indefinite Leave to Remain after a certain time period.
  • People who have lived in the UK, either lawfully or unlawfully for 20 years or more may be able to apply for leave to remain.  If approved, after a further ten years, they can apply for Indefinite Leave to Remain.
  • You may need to meet the English language requirement and pass the Life in the UK Test if you are between the ages of 18 and 65 years.
  • There are special provisions in UK immigration law to allow victims of domestic violence to apply for Indefinite Leave to Remain prior to meeting the residency requirements in some circumstances.
  • If you are the spouse of a British Citizen or a person who is ‘settled’ in the UK, may be able to apply for Indefinite Leave to Remain after five years.
