Career

Matthew has particular experience in mergers and acquisitions, including acting for bidders or sellers in auction transactions, coordinating multijurisdictional teams and advising on the regulatory challenges that such transactions can present. As a member of Ogier's multi-disciplinary Private Equity team, Matthew advises on downstream acquisitions and exits, particularly in the financial services sector. Matthew also regularly advises on corporate restructurings, equity and debt fundraisings and general corporate matters. Alongside partner Nick Williams, Matthew co-leads Ogier Jersey Regulatory Group, which provides contentious and non-contentious advice on all Jersey regulatory matters, and advises on Jersey tax reporting requirements, financial services regulations, anti-money laundering obligations and competition law.

Since moving to Jersey Matthew has advised on many of the transactions that have changed the landscape of the Jersey fiduciary sector. He has particular experience in acting for bidders or sellers in auction transactions, coordinating multijurisdictional teams and advising on the regulatory challenges that such transactions can present.

Matthew joined Ogier in May 2015 and is a partner in the corporate and investment funds teams.  He qualified in England and Wales (currently non-practising) at a City firm in 1997 and moved to Jersey from K&L Gates in 2006.  Before joining Ogier, Matthew practiced at another leading law firm in Jersey.

Matthew was seconded to HSBC Channel Islands and Isle of Man for the second half of 2016 as temporary General Counsel.

Matthew is listed as one of only two Channel Island advisers in the "International Who's Who of Competition Lawyers 2012" directory.

Qualified at a City firm in 1997; Senior Associate Kirkpatrick & Lockhart Nicholson Graham LLP 2004-2006; Managing Associate Mourant Ozannes, 2006-2015; joined  Ogier as Partner 2015.
