Singapore > Offshore Tier 1
Carey Olsen Singapore LLP launched a Singapore office back in 2017 and in a short period has become the largest offshore firm in Singapore. Providing a full-service approach to the market, it covers dispute resolution, insolvency, banking and finance, corporate and M&A, and private wealth. The team provides Cayman, BVI, Bermuda and Jersey law expertise. It has a China desk, dedicated to advising Chinese clients on disputes, corporate and private wealth matters, and has achieved further growth in clients from Australia, Japan, South Korea and India. With one of the most established dispute resolution teams amongst the offshore firms in Singapore, the firm has made further headway in shareholder disputes, insolvency cases, trust and private wealth matters, and cases connected to Section 238 of the Cayman Islands Companies Act. The office is also noted for crypto disputes and other cases in the fintech arena. On the transactional side, the firm has experienced growth in Nasdaq listings using a Cayman or BVI vehicle, fund raising for large and mid-cap managers, and trusts and private wealth work for family offices and ultra high net-worth individuals. Anthony McKenzie is the Singapore office managing partner and head of the Asia corporate practice. Cayman and BVI admitted James Noble leads the firm’s litigation, insolvency and restructuring team in Asia, which includes fluent Mandarin and Cantonese speaker Helen Wang (‘ability to understand the Chinese business landscape is also unparalleled‘). Tom Katsaros heads the funds team.Practice head(s):

Testimonials
‘They are first rate. Responsive, client focused, smart and strategic. Couldn’t ask for more.’
‘Helen Wang consistently provided actionable and knowledgeable advice and working product that was both thorough and clever. Even more so, she puts clients’ interests and needs first and works more as a trusted partner than a transactional service provider.’
‘We have consistently received timely and thorough responses to simple and complex legal and strategic questions from multiple members of Carey Olsen’s legal team. We are able to work with them as an extension of our firm, rather than an outside service provider.’
‘Carey Olsen is really fast with their turnaround times, and they are always on point when it comes to the commercial issues. James Noble, Amelia Tan, and Helen Wang are easy to work with and so highly responsive, and are a top choice for us when it comes to engaging offshore counsel.’
‘Amelia Tan is a stand-out for me. She is very responsive and is very familiar with the laws of various offshore jurisdictions, and it is easy to work with her to get a quick response to our end clients within the day. James Noble as usual is also extremely pleasant and collaboration with him is never an issue. Helen Wang’s ability to understand the Chinese business landscape is also unparalleled.’
‘The Carey Olsen brand stands out as a hallmark of quality in every jurisdiction in which it operates. It is a firm which attracts lawyers of the highest calibre. It has developed a dominant position in Singapore, providing a gateway for litigation in the Cayman Islands, the BVI and Bermuda for clients from East Asia, particularly the PRC. The Singapore office co-ordinates seamlessly with its offices in the Caribbean, providing a truly international service across all time zones. ’
‘James Noble is hugely knowledgeable and experienced. He provides clients who generally have previously not encountered Caribbean litigation with the reassurance that their cases are in the best possible hands. Kate Lan is an astute lawyer with an ever-increasing following, and always a joy to work with; she combines a fearless approach to protecting and promoting her client’s interests with strong legal instincts.’
‘Amelia Tan is thoughtful and strategic with a wealth of Caribbean experience. A pleasure to work with.’
