Position
Tim is a partner in Carey Olsen's British Virgin Islands (BVI) Dispute Resolution and Litigation team, practising BVI law from Carey Olsen’s London office.
Tim has over 15 years' onshore and offshore experience of high profile and complex cross-border litigation and insolvency work and has recently relocated to London after living and working in the BVI for eight years.
Tim is qualified as a Solicitor and Barrister and regularly appears in Court. He is a highly experienced offshore litigator, working on all elements of shareholder and company disputes, cross-border fraud and asset tracing, injunctions, trusts, insolvency and restructuring. Tim's cases are often complex multi-jurisdictional disputes which involve working with professional advisors in other countries and time zones.
Tim is well versed in new litigation trends such as cryptocurrency and digital asset disputes, and cases involving economic sanctions.
Tim is a business minded and pragmatic litigator who takes the time to understand his clients' needs and objectives. He recognises that legal disputes can be stressful and destructive for businesses. He aims to find the best outcome for his clients, whether in court or by commercial settlement.
Career
Tim studied Law at Cambridge University and trained at Herbert Smith Freehills in London. He qualified as a Solicitor in 2009, and subsequently as a Solicitor Advocate and Barrister (Lincoln's Inn, London). He was admitted to practice in the BVI in March 2015.
Tim also has experience in Caribbean criminal appeals on a pro bono basis. He took two Jamaican murder appeals to full hearings at the Judicial Committee of the Privy Council and received judicial recognition for his efforts.
Tim is a member of INSOL and sat on the Board of the BVI’s Recovery and Insolvency Specialists Association (RISA) for four years while working in the BVI.
Tim is ranked for Dispute Resolution by Chambers and Partners and features in their Global Guide. He is also ranked for Dispute Resolution by The Legal 500. Tim is listed in Who's Who Legal for Asset Recovery.
