Calum is a member of the dispute resolution team in Edinburgh. Calum’s principal areas of practice are Public and Administrative law (including contentious Data Protection, Procurement, Civil Liberties and Human Rights, Regulatory Law, Statutory Appeals and Planning and Environmental Law). Calum has considerable experience representing public and private sector clients in the Court of Session (including all aspects of Judicial Review), Sheriff Court and other dispute resolution settings.

Calum regularly advises clients on public, regulatory and constitutional law issues and reflects his practical litigation experience in his advice to clients on statutory/regulatory obligations and wider reputation management. Calum provides advice to clients on legislation and statutory interpretation, the powers and duties of public bodies, good corporate governance and getting decisions right first time. Calum also represents clients in situations when decision-making is questioned, whether during complaints processes or investigations, or at tribunals, courts or public inquiries. Calum’s expertise spans challenges relating to competition /state aid/ procurement, planning/ environmental/ climate change issues, data protection & information law, education matters, looked-after children/ vulnerable adults/ homeless accommodation, and other areas where decisions are made that affect individuals, businesses and communities.

Applying a thorough understanding of the relevant legislative/ regulatory/ procedural frameworks and how to identify and address areas susceptible to challenge. Calum is acutely aware of the complex and politically sensitive issues affecting those engaged in public sector disputes and tailors his advice accordingly. Calum always works with clients to resolve their disputes in the most cost effective and efficient manner possible; striving to reach practical solutions where possible.
