Career

Christopher is a key advisor to landowners, farmers and rural land-owning institutions. One of his main strengths is explaining complex legal issues in simple terms and giving practical advice and solutions to both everyday problems encountered by farmers, landowners and their families and to issues of asset and tax planning affecting each generation.

He helped to form the Strategic Land and Development Team at Forsters bringing together all disciplines dealing with Development. He advises landowners on a wide range of option and promotion agreements to bring forward land for development, He is experienced in advising groups of owners on equalising development gains and the property and tax intricacies of selling land for development.

Christopher has been involved in farm and landed estate sales and purchases for over 30 years and advises on agricultural landlord and tenant problems and tenancy restructuring for inheritance tax planning purposes. He advises family farming partnerships and has an unrivalled working knowledge of agricultural holdings and farm business tenancy legislation.

He has a thorough knowledge of the agricultural industry and a wide range of skills including advising farming and landowning organisations on the 2001 and 2007 foot and mouth outbreaks.

Christopher is recognised in The Legal 500 Hall of Fame and as a 'Senior Statesperson' in Chambers UK Guide 2023.He is also classified as a 'Top Recommended Lawyer' in the Spear's 500 2023 directory.
