Work Department

Insurance and public risk/technical claims and social care.

Position

Helen has over 20 years’ experience, defending high profile civil liability claims for commercial insurers and organisations in the public and private sector. Helen’s background in health and care sees her regularly advising clients where there is an overlap between health and care issues in claims, including issues of human rights breaches, professional negligence, public liability allegations and fatality claims. Given the nature of these claims many carry an element of press coverage and reputational risk and Helen’s clients turn to her to coordinate response to investigations by police, HSE, safeguarding and CQC together with coordinated press releases (https://www.mirror.co.uk/news/uk-news/tate-modern-attacker-care-cut-21458655 - confidential) as well as handling the complex civil claims.

Helen’s clients include the NHS Resolution, for which she is the national Nominated Partner lead and is responsible for the strategic direction of non-clinical claims. With her specialist health and care background, Helen has been advising the DHSC and NHS Resolution through the Covid-19 pandemic on policies and emerging risks (confidential).  Helen is also lead partner for Markel (UK) Ltd and Nottinghamshire County Council, advising on their complex claims and supporting with their organisation’s learning, risk profile and claims strategies.
