Position

Mark Lewis heads up the firms property finance team which specialises in secured property lending. Mark’s team supports the banking and finance team as well as independently acting on property finance transactions (development, investment and agricultural). Mark specialises in acting for many banks and alternative debt providers as well as acting for borrowers.

Mark provides practical commercial advice to our banking and corporate client’s in taking security over/lending against property. Mark is known for being easy to use, approachable, proactive and always prepared to “give a view”.

Mark has strong connections across the East and West Midlands and as a result has bought in a number of banking clients/work into the team, specifically from HSBC, Natwest, Handelsbanken, Shawbrook, Clydesdale Bank and Cambridge & Counties Bank.

Mark’s recent highlights include:

  • advising a high street bank in a £15m forward fund of a mixed use development in Rickmansworth which is anchored by household name tenants;
  • acting for Clydesdale Bank in the funding of the purchase of a 96,000 square foot warehouse in Leicester
  • acting for a high street bank in a £9.3m hotel development in Chester;
  • advising a two bank syndicated club on its £80m lend to an independent healthcare
  • acting for the sellers on the MBO of Genesis Dental Group which comprised of 11 dentist sites
  • acting for PCT Healthcare Ltd in its £80m acquisition of 64 pharmacies from WR Evans (Chemist) Limited. This was Insider East Midlands Dealmakers Awards 2016 ‘Deal of the Year’

Mark trained at a high street practice in Leicester qualifying in 2007. On qualification Mark moved to Cobbetts in Leeds, spending nearly four years there before returning to Leicester at Shakespeares (then Harvey Ingram). In January 2014, Mark joined Browne Jacobson.
