Derek helps US and international companies navigate the Export Administration Regulations (EAR), International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR), and Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) sanctions, providing advice on regulatory compliance as well as political and reputational risks. He regularly handles matters such as licensing applications, commodity classifications, audits, administrative subpoenas, and voluntary disclosures. His work extends to a range of cross-border compliance issues, including helping foreign investors and target companies assess proposed transactions and prepare notice filings to the Committee on Foreign Investment in the United States (CFIUS); customs classifications and country of origin determinations; and forced labor analysis.
