Biography:

Alberto P. Maturana practices mainly in tax and corporate law in Baker McKenzie’s Santiago office. He has actively participated as a speaker in a wide variety of tax conferences, and has also published numerous articles, including "Latin America: Anti-avoidance rules present challenges and opportunities" and “Cross-Border Contract Manufacturing Can Have Costly Tax Consequences in Chile” for Tax Analyst. He has served as a professor of International Taxation in various postgraduate programs.

Practice Focus:

Mr. Maturana advises corporations and individuals from a broad spectrum of industries. He is proficient in business structuring, foreign inbound/outbound investment, offshore intercompany transactions, holding and financing strategies, cash repatriation as well as tax and estate planning. In addition, he counsels on mergers and acquisitions and transactional matters. Mr. Maturana is a permanent legal representative and tax counsel for various foreign companies doing business in Chile.

Representative Legal Matters: Advising Latin American Power (LAP), an electric generation company, in corporate and tax matters to acquire several strategic energetic projects in Chile. One such purchase included one of Chile's first wind energy projects that became fully operational in 2010. Advised Atlantia in the sale of a significant stake in Chile’s Costanera Group. The Canada Pension Plan Investment Board (CPPIB) purchased a 49.99 percent stake in the group from Atlantia S.p.A. in a transaction valued at USD1.15 billion.
