Position

Sjef Janssen is a legal director in Baker McKenzie’s Amsterdam office, where he focuses on commercial and competition litigation. Before joining the Firm in 2013, he was a junior lecturer on EU law for Leiden University’s undergraduate and graduate programs.

Sjef has substantial experience in general commercial and competition litigation, as well as corporate and international arbitration. He represents a wide variety of clients before courts of all levels, including the Supreme Court and the EU Court of Justice.

Sjef has registered the following principal legal practice areas in the Netherlands Bar’s register of legal practice areas (rechtsgebiedenregister):

– General Practice, Private law (Algemene Praktijk, Burgerlijk recht)

Based on this registration, he is required to obtain ten training credits per calendar year in each registered principal legal practice area in accordance with the standards set by the Netherlands Bar.

Sjef Janssen – Baker McKenzie

Baker McKenzie‘s dispute resolution team is co-led by litigation experts Frank Kroes and Itse Oosterhoff. The team advises on corporate litigation, including post-M&A disputes, shareholder and joint venture cases, and issues relating to insolvency and restructuring. Advising the energy sector on construction disputes is another area of expertise of the team. Other than construction disputes, the team also advises energy sector clients on cartel damages and commercial litigation. Kroes and Oosterhoff are supported by a strong team of disputes-focused associates, including Sjef Janssen, Joris Oudelaar and Rutger Doorduyn.
