Dr. Janet Butler is a counsel in Baker McKenzie’s Transactional / Projects practice in Berlin. She joined Baker McKenzie in 2001 and meanwhile has more than 20 years of experience advising domestic and foreign companies, financial institutions, financial investors and public authorities in a broad range of public law matters, with a focus on regulated industries (chemicals, life sciences, (renewable) energy and infrastructure).
Janet is a member of the European Energy, Mining & Infrastructure Industry Group and the Global Environment & Climate Change Practice Group. She has worked in the Firm’s Berlin, Frankfurt and London offices.

Zu den zentralen Ansprechpartnern zählen unter anderem Counsel Janet Butler (neben Subventions- und EU-Beihilferecht auch Umwelt- und Planungsrecht) und Katharina Weiner, die im Juli 2024 zur Partnerin ernannt wurde und im öffentlichen Transaktionsrecht erfahren ist; sie berät sowohl international tätige Unternehmen als auch die öffentliche Hand bei Reorganisationen, Projektentwicklungen und M&A-Transaktionen. Der Beihilfe- und Kartellrechtsexperte Andrés Martin-Ehlers verließ das Team im Dezember 2023 und ist seitdem selbstständig tätig. Praxisleiter Marc Gabriel trat Ende 2024 in den Ruhestand ein.

Baker McKenzie advises companies on state aid, grant and funding law, with a particular focus on issues relating to the research and development of new technologies, including projects in the telecommunications sector, as well as in connection with industrial settlement projects. Key contacts include counsel Janet Butler (in addition to subsidy and EU state aid law, also environmental and planning law) and Katharina Weiner, who made partner in July 2024 and is experienced in public transaction law; she advises both internationally active companies and public sector clients on reorganisations, project developments and M&A transactions. State aid and antitrust law expert Andrés Martin-Ehlers left the team in December 2023 and has been self-employed since then. Practice head Marc Gabriel retired at the end of 2024.
