Position

Thomas Phillips is chair of the Firm’s Global Real Estate Leasing Practice Group and has been practicing commercial real estate and land use law for over 30 years. Tom advises owners, developers, landlords, tenants, lenders, and investors in a variety of property acquisitions/sales, leases, development and permitting projects, debt and equity financings, workouts/restructurings, and other sophisticated real estate transactions. While his practice spans all asset classes, he has particular experience working with retail, leisure, hospitality and mixed-use properties. He is the current chair of the ICSC (formerly International Council of Shopping Centers) Legal Advisory Council and a past ICSC state director.

Tom has for many years been recognized in Chambers USA and The Legal 500 US and has been selected by his peers for inclusion in The Best Lawyers in America in the fields of Real Estate Law and Land Use and Zoning Law. Clients have commented to Chambers that he “provides great market knowledge and can handle large, complex projects” and that he is “the consummate professional and extremely knowledgeable about the industry.”

Prior to joining Brown Rudnick, Tom was a partner in the Boston law firm of Hutchins, Wheeler & Dittmar, where he served as chair of the Real Estate Department.
