Career

Hilary Huffman Sommer has extensive experience in a variety of state and federal litigation matters at the pre-trial, trial and appellate level. She focuses her practice on consumer financial services litigation, and has experience representing financial institutions in complex business litigation matters both locally and nationally before state and federal trial and appellate courts. Hilary has defended financial institutions in a variety of cases, including matters alleging violations of the Truth in Lending Act (TILA), Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA), Real Estate Settlement Procedures Act (RESPA), Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (FDCPA), the Telephone Consumer Protection Act (TCPA), as well as state unfair and deceptive acts or practices (UDAP) statutes and other consumer lending statutes and regulations, such as those promulgated by the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB).

Hilary also has significant experience in high-volume litigation management and alternative dispute resolution. She has managed all stages of discovery, prepared and argued numerous successful dispositive motions, negotiated many favorable settlements, and has first chaired both jury and bench trials.
