Career
Curtis Romig currently serves as the Atlanta Office’s Litigation Leader supervising the litigation efforts of the firm’s historic Atlanta office. He has assisted construction, financial, energy, technology, retail, healthcare, manufacturing and transportation companies in resolving commercial disputes through negotiation, mediation, arbitration and state and federal litigation. His construction dispute experience includes resolving disputes related to nonpayment, defective construction and defective design for all participants in construction projects, including owners, developers, contractors, design-builders, subcontractors, investors, and lenders. Curtis has resolved construction disputes through negotiation, mediation, arbitration and state and federal litigation throughout the Southeast and Mid-Atlantic. He helped one of his clients secure the largest verdict in the history of Brooks County, Georgia in a design and construction defect case, and helped another client successfully prove that its pet food processing facility was completely redesigned and reconstructed. On behalf of an owner and developer, Curtis resolved litigation related to improper preparation of sites for vertical construction. He has also successfully defended a major construction equipment manufacturer in a products liability action and a design-build contractor in various disputes involving payment, defective design and construction, workers’ compensation and the Longshore and Harbor Workers’ Compensation Act in New Orleans both before and after Hurricane Katrina. His construction litigation experience is informed by his extensive experience negotiating and drafting construction contracts using all of the industry's major form contract documents.
Curtis's real estate litigation experience includes all manner of property related disputes. He has represented lenders, real estate developers, investors, contractors, property owners and tenants in loan default, eminent domain, lease, easement, title, boundary, foreclosure, and other property-based disputes. He has extensive experience in foreclosure confirmation and loan deficiency actions, regularly appearing before courts throughout Georgia and the Southeast on such matters.
Curtis has extensive dispute resolution experience representing utilities and other energy companies involved in energy marketing and manufacturers involved in co-generation. He has counseled these clients in matters involving informal dispute resolution, mediation, arbitration and litigation. These representations have involved almost every aspect of power generation, supply, demand and transmission and have included representation of his clients before the Georgia Public Service Commission. Curtis has extensive experience with the Georgia Territorial Electric Service Act and disputes arising under it.
He has experience with litigation in state and federal trial and appellate courts throughout the Southeast and Mid-Atlantic, having served for several years as national discovery counsel for a major home improvement retailer. This work involved several years of supervising defense counsel in hundreds of premises liability, false imprisonment and products liability cases brought against the client. More specifically, Curtis helped the client evaluate these cases and determine the most cost effective means of defending and resolving them. He also helped the client develop and implement standardized discovery procedures for these cases.
Curtis is a Master in the Bleckley Inn of Court and has been an active member for over a decade. He is also a member of the Advisory Committee of the Pro Bono Partnership of Atlanta, which provides legal services to over 900 Georgia non-profits. Every year, he and his colleagues at BCLP provide hundreds of hours of pro bono legal services to those non-profits through the PBP of Atlanta.
Prior to joining the firm, Curtis clerked in the Norfolk Division of the Eastern District of Virginia for the Honorable Henry Coke Morgan, Jr., United States District Judge.
