Career

Matt is a talented and accomplished attorney based in the firm’s Denver and Chicago offices. His nationwide litigation practice covers nearly all types of complex business and commercial matters.  Specifically, Matt’s practice concentrates on food and agribusiness litigation with a focus on claims of crop loss and breach of contract, and consumer litigation with a focus on the Fair Credit Reporting Act (“FCRA”).  He has handled numerous class actions, often obtaining dismissals before class certification, and has tried cases in front of state courts and arbitration panels.  Matt’s goal is to reach the best possible resolution for the client, and he effectively communicates with clients and advises them through all stages of litigation, including pre-litigation demands, discovery, depositions, motion practice, trial/arbitration, and appeals.

In addition to his litigation practice, Matt also serves as a trusted business advisor and helps clients identify and address legal needs.  In this role, he has experience advising on compliance issues, as well as negotiating, drafting, and analyzing various types of corporate agreements, including operating agreements, services agreements, non-disclosure agreements, and consulting agreements.

Matt has also carved out a niche as one of the firm’s foremost experts on issues arising under the FCRA.  He has experience advising all types of clients with business activities that touch the FCRA, ranging from telecommunications companies to employers to loan servicers.  He advises these clients on FCRA compliance issues and defends them in FCRA litigation across the country.  Matt has successfully defended both class and individual FCRA claims using motions to dismiss, motions for summary judgment, and at trial.  Matt stays current on recent FCRA developments by giving CLE presentations and authoring articles and client alerts.

Outside of his legal practice, Matt is also active in the community. He is a member of the Wartburg College Board of Regents and also volunteers as a youth baseball and soccer coach for the Southeast Denver Little League and Skyline Soccer Association.  Previously, he has also been a member of the City Year Denver Associate Board, the Wartburg College West Advisory Board, and the Wartburg College Alumni Board.

Matt is a contributing author to Financial Regulation: Emerging Themes in 2022 – an extensive collection of articles around the themes of Sustainability & ESG; Talent & People and I&D; Regulatory Risk & Enforcement; Governance; Technology; and Changing Markets.
