Career

Peter Bay is a litigator with a national practice focusing on product liability, mass tort, consumer fraud class action, and commercial litigation.  His cases typically involve the defense of leading pharmaceutical, automotive, and consumer product manufacturers. They frequently include multidistrict litigation and consolidated mass tort proceedings.

Peter has a demonstrated track record of developing the necessary facts and law on behalf of clients, and has secured early dismissal through dispositive motion practice in State and Federal trial courts throughout the country. He also has significant appellate experience, bolstered by his experience as a law clerk with the Supreme Court of Missouri. Peter has handled appeals in numerous State intermediate appellate and supreme courts, and he frequently advises on procedure and crafting arguments in direct appeals, at the certiorari/transfer stage, as well as in extraordinary writ practice.

Peter also devotes time to pro bono matters, and has represented indigent criminal defendants through the Missouri Coalition for the Right to Counsel, as well as assisted and advised on Missouri death row inmate appeals.

Before joining BCLP, Peter served for two years as a law clerk to the Hon. Mary R. Russell, then Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of Missouri.  He earned his J.D. from the University of Missouri, graduating magna cum laude with membership in the Order of the Coif. During law school, Peter was the Associate Editor-in-Chief of the Missouri Law Review, in which he published a note examining public sector labor unions.
