Position

Mr. McLaughlin is a corporate partner and head of the Firm’s Derivatives Practice. He is a leading practitioner in derivative transactions of all types, including futures, over-the-counter derivatives and cleared swaps, as well as related collateral, guarantee, custody and other credit support arrangements. He also maintains a leading practice in repurchase, securities lending and prime brokerage and other types of trading agreements, as well as structured products, synthetic equity and fund-linked investments, credit extensions, loan trading and derivatives claim trading. His clients include hedge funds, private equity funds, investment management firms, investment and commercial banks, mutual funds, individual investors, corporations and government-sponsored entities. Mr. McLaughlin regularly advises market participants on legislative and regulatory developments concerning futures, derivatives, cleared swaps, bankruptcy and insolvency safe harbors, and market structure and facilities.

Career

Mr. McLaughlin is the author of Over-the-Counter Derivative Products: A Guide to Business and Legal Risk Management and Documentation (McGraw-Hill, 1999) and the chapter "Risk Management and Fiduciary Duties" in Risk Management: Foundations for a Changing Financial World (John Wiley & Sons, Inc., 2010). He is a member of the Board of Editors of Futures & Derivatives Law Report. In addition to his frequent derivatives industry presentations, Mr. McLaughlin has been a guest lecturer on derivatives and risk management at Fordham University School of Law.

Memberships

From 2015 - 2018, Mr. McLaughlin served as Chair of the Futures & Derivatives Committee of New York City Bar (City Bar). Since 2004, he has been Chair or Co-Chair of more than a dozen City Bar programs, including the Futures & Derivatives Committee's annual conference. Recently, Mr. McLaughlin moderated several panels on the transition away from LIBOR for the City Bar, Fried Frank and Strafford. Mr. McLaughlin is a member of ISDA.

Education

Mr. McLaughlin received his JD from New York University School of Law in 1983 and his AB from Dartmouth College in 1979, with highest honors.
