Career
Carolina Lazo is an attorney with over 20 years of experience, advising clients across various practice areas. Her expertise includes occupational health and safety, the Firefighters' Law of El Salvador, and the purchase, import, and storage of controlled products. She has provided standout guidance on new investment projects within the textile and maquila sectors, representing multinational companies in some of the most significant investments in this industry, covering areas such as free trade zone regimes, environmental compliance, energy, corporate matters, and regulatory compliance related to the operation of these companies. Additionally, she has been involved in new energy generation projects, encompassing both renewable and non-renewable resources.
In the area of aircraft financing from a local regulatory perspective, Carolina has handled leases, subleases, guarantees, and other transactions involving local air operators. She has also provided opinions and assisted with related matters, such as the registration of documents with the relevant authorities.
Throughout her career, she has focused on developing Environmental Law and ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) practices within the firm, assisting companies and industries with establishing and operating facilities, analyzing environmental laws and regulations, conducting due diligence, and advising on specific proceedings before environmental and regulatory authorities.
In addition, Carolina has actively participated in energy-related transactions, advising various industries on matters such as energy purchase and supply contracts, maintenance of electrical installations, and services within the electricity market. She has also provided regulatory advice on the establishment and operation of power generation and distribution facilities.
Her experience also extends to academia, where she has served as an instructor and later a Professor at Dr. José Matías Delgado University, teaching courses such as Roman Law, Civil Law, and Introduction to the Study of Law.
Before joining Arias, Carolina worked as a legal analyst in the research and studies department at the Salvadoran Foundation for Economic and Social Development (FUSADES), one of El Salvador's most prominent think tanks.
