David is a registered patent attorney with extensive experience in providing strategic guidance to clients based on their specific business objectives. His broad professional and technical backgrounds allow him to gain a deep understanding of the complexities and implications of a client’s technology and business, making him a valuable resource for his clients.

David’s practice includes a broad range of services, for example: securing Intellectual Property (IP) rights through combinations of copyrights, trademarks, design and utility patents, and trade secrets; drafting and negotiating agreements (such as for SaaS, technology procurement and SLAs, terms of use/service, software and IP licensing, employment, and settlements); advising regarding third party enforcement and IP liability risks (e.g., “Freedom to Operate” reviews), identifying and addressing risks for artificial intelligence (AI) use with respect to the business, IP rights, and trade secrets; identifying and addressing risks for open source licensing and software distribution; and enforcing IP licensing terms and other IP rights. Additionally, David has been spending part of his time consulting as a seconded attorney with the in-house IP legal team for a leading software technology company.

David excels at simplifying complex problems and technologies in an easy-to-understand format for his clients, which range from small startups to Fortune 500 companies. David customizes his recommended strategies for each business based on each client’s unique business goals, technology development processes, company size and position in the market, competitor landscape, and budgetary constraints. David’s technical expertise covers technologies that are primarily in the computer software space (e.g., AI/ML including Generative AI, blockchain, eXtended Reality (XR), etc.). However, David’s technical expertise also includes numerous fields and technologies ranging from medical devices to exercise equipment to industrial systems and processes.

David graduated from USC Law School, where he worked a semester as a Patent Pilot Program Extern in the United States District Court, Central District of California in Los Angeles, CA, serving as a shared resource for patent cases brought before the four Federal Judges participating in the program. Before law school, David worked as an engineer at a prestigious civil engineering firm and as a consultant at a software technology start-up based out of San Ramon, CA.
