Position

Partner (Civil and Commercial Law) with special focus on company, construction, employment, insolvency and land disputes.

Anthony Chow is an experienced litigator. He has represented diverse clients from conglomerates to individuals.

With his many years of experience, Anthony can identify the options available to his clients and develop a strategy to help his clients achieve the best commercial outcome in a cost efficient manner.

Some of the cases handled by Anthony include

a. advising on shareholders'/joint venture disputes and taking actions to protect the clients' interests;

b. acting for a contractor in major road works in the New Territories where an injunction was successfully obtained to restrain the sub-contractors and trespassers from blocking the site and disrupting the works;

c. advising on breaches of employment contracts including obtaining an injunction preventing former employees from soliciting customers and inducing breaches of contracts of fellow employees;

d. advising clients in Akai Holdings Limited (in liquidation) and Hsin Chong Construction Company Limited (in liquidation);

e. representing clients in land disputes relating to issues including encroachment of structures, prescription rights, surrender and regrant and adverse possession; and

f. acting for clients in appeals to Appeal Tribunal (Buildings) and Town Planning Appeal Board on demolition order and residential development respectively and seeking judicial review of the decisions of the said Tribunal and Board. 

Beside litigation, Anthony has represented clients in ad hoc and institutional arbitration proceedings including HKIAC and LCIA.

Career

Anthony joined Nixon Peabody CWL as a partner in 2011.

Prior to coming to Hong Kong Kong, he was practising in Australia. He started his legal career with an international firm in Australia.

He has published books on insolvency including Hong Kong Bankruptcy Law Handbook (4th Edn) and Halsbury's Laws of Hong Kong on Bankruptcy (2019 and 2013 Edns).

He is a part time tutor in the Professional Practice and Management (Non-Contentious) course and Civil Litigation course in the Postgraduate Certificate of Laws at the Faculty of Law of The University of Hong Kong.

He also has undertaken Pro Bono work including as an honorary legal advisor to the Malaysian Association of Hong Kong.
