Mayer Brown promotes seven to counsel in Asia

Hong Kong, 21 November 2018 – Mayer Brown has announced the promotion of seven lawyers in Asia to counsel. The appointments are effective January 1, 2019.

“Each one of these talented lawyers embodies our Firm’s commitment to world-class client service,” said Mayer Brown Chairman Paul Theiss. “By promoting them to counsel, we are pleased to recognize their many contributions to our clients and the Firm.”

The new counsels in Asia are:

Wayne K.W. Cheng, Real Estate, Hong Kong

Wayne Cheng is a Real Estate counsel in Hong Kong. He acts for many major developers in Hong Kong in the establishment and subsequent sale of large-scale developments involving hundreds to over a thousand units. He is also known for his expertise in the regulatory regimes governing project sales of the Lands Department and the Sales of First-hand Residential Properties Authority. Finally, Mr. Cheng advises on the restructuring of properties holding portfolios, including “court-free” statutory amalgamation under the new Companies Ordinance, and stamp duty issues, as well as real estate aspects of the sale and purchase of property holding companies.

Xin Fang, Corporate & Securities, Hong Kong

A Corporate & Securities counsel in Hong Kong, Xin Fang advises on cross-border mergers and acquisitions, joint ventures and private equity transactions, with a focus on greater China transactions. Ms. Fang also negotiates, drafts and advises on joint venture agreements, shareholder agreements, share purchase agreements and business transfer agreements, as well as all matters of corporate and commercial law.

Rosalyn J. Han, Litigation & Dispute Resolution, Beijing

Rosalyn Han, a Litigation & Dispute Resolution counsel in Beijing, advises clients in relation to domestic and international arbitration before major arbitration institutions such as CIETAC, HKIAC and DIAC. Her experience covers all types of construction disputes, including those related to payment, valuation and measurement, delay and disruption, design and other professional liabilities; issues arising from defective works and contract termination; and the enforcement of performance security.

Felicia P.Y. Lee, Litigation & Dispute Resolution, Hong Kong

Felicia Lee is a Litigation & Dispute Resolution counsel in Hong Kong. She has experience advising on construction disputes, including claims arising from construction defects, plants and equipment issues, delayed completions and variations. Ms. Lee has assisted in drafting construction project documentation. She has also advised on rating issues, work safety issues, damage to underground cables, and rating appeals.

Karen H.F. Lee, Intellectual Property, Hong Kong

An Intellectual Property counsel in Hong Kong, Karen Lee works on large-scale outsourcing and IT projects and advises on data privacy issues covering the APAC region. Karen's experience includes leading the drafting and negotiation of deals involving cutting-edge technology, including fintech, AI, biometrics and the procurement of critical IT solutions for major financial institutions, leading airlines and other multi-national companies. She has also managed large-scale data privacy projects covering multiple jurisdictions and advised on cybersecurity laws.

Evelyn W.J. Lok, Banking & Finance, Hong Kong

A Banking & Finance counsel in Hong Kong, Evelyn Lok focuses on aviation and shipping finance. In the aviation industry, she has experience in cross-border commercial aircraft financing and leasing. She has acted for banks and other lenders, lessors and airlines on a number of commercial aviation matters. Ms. Lok also acts on general aircraft transactions, including the financing, management, sale and purchase of corporate jets, sale and purchase of commercial aircraft and procurement of equipment for airlines and lessors.

Wei Na Sim, Litigation & Dispute Resolution, Hong Kong

Wei Na Sim is a Litigation & Dispute Resolution counsel in Hong Kong. She specializes in litigation and investigations, with a focus in financial services-related matters. Before joining Mayer Brown, Ms. Sim practiced in Singapore for more than nine years, advising publicly listed companies, banks, insurers, financial institutions and intermediaries and inter-dealer brokers in matters at all levels of Singapore courts. Those matters involved novel issues of law in multiple jurisdictions.
