Position

Francisco Tong is head of our Environment practice group. He specializes in mining, environmental and natural resources law.

Career

He participates in the development and implementation of the main infrastructure and mining projects in the country. He counsels on environmental and natural resources matters, concessions, and administrative and judicial procedures related to said matters.

He has extensive experience in managing permits, licenses and authorizations for natural resources use and/or exploitation. He also counsels on the analysis and structuring of operations related to concessions, such as transfer, assignment, option and joint venture contracts.

His experience includes wide knowledge of environmental sustainability issues, such as those referred to circular economy, waste management, quality standards, recycling, climate change, among others.

Francisco has counseled the World Bank on a project to improve mining and environmental regulations in the Dominican Republic and the Republic of Colombia, as well as in other specific matters related to the mining industry development in general.

He was professor of Mining and Environmental Law at the top universities of the country and a frequent speaker at various events both in the country and abroad. He is past president of the National Institute for Mining, Oil and Energy Law.
