Career

Hugo Alexander Berkemeyer is a partner at BKM | Berkemeyer, where he has worked since 2006. His practice encompasses the areas of Corporate, Contract and Intellectual Property Law and he has more than 18 years of experience leading multidisciplinary teams in complex transactions and managing portfolios of Fortune 500 companies.

His experience ranges from legal management to operational optimisation and technology implementation in the firm. His fluency in English and German facilitates the entry of foreign investors into the Paraguayan market.

His commitment to pro bono service is reflected in his involvement in anti-corruption and compliance projects.

Education

Alexander graduated with a Bachelor of Laws degree (LL.B.) from the National University of Asunción, having been in the honor roll (top 5%) of his graduating class in 2009. He obtained a Master of Business Administration (MBA) from the Columbia Business School, New York, 2019, with the thesis ‘Concentration in Operation and Management with Projects in consulting for small and mid-sized companies in Language Processing for Compliance. He also holds a Master of Laws (LL.M) from Columbia Law School, New York, 2012, having obtained the ‘Parker Certification for Achievement in International and Comparative Law’.

He has additionally completed other postgraduate courses such as the course Administration of Legal Studies in Latin America, ‘IE Law School’ (2017) and the Diploma in Competition Law, ‘Universidad Torcuato Di Tella’ (2015), among others.
