Career

Ruaridh trained in the firm’s London and Shanghai office and moved to Hong Kong in 2014.

Principally a litigator, he advises and represent parties in all types of cases relating to shipping in courts, arbitrations, international arbitrations and in foreign proceedings. Ruaridh offers a breadth of expertise across the full-range of dry shipping work, including bills of lading, charterparties (time, voyage, bareboat), contracts of affreightment, and ship sale & purchase contracts. 

In addition to contentious work, Ruaridh has also assisted various clients in negotiating and drafting contracts (charterparties, sale contracts, insurance policies etc.), whether bespoke or in the form of standard terms. Ruaridh also acts in numerous disputes, involving both Mainland Chinese and foreign parties, which arise out of winding-up petitions and other insolvency proceedings.

Ruaridh also has extensive experience in the international trade and commodities sector, acting for a range of different parties.  He has particular expertise in matters relating to the trade in oil and oil products.
