James Peacham

James Peacham is a criminal litigator fielding significant experience across the full spectrum of serious and organised crime, corruption, fraud and extradition. Many of his cases have attracted substantial media attention.
Often described as a practical lawyer, James possesses a formidable ability in meeting the challenging needs and expectations of clients from the widest of backgrounds. He has acted on behalf of corporates and individuals including government officials, teachers, professional sportsman and musicians.
James joined Eversheds Sutherland in 2020 with a view to strengthening his expertise in white-collar crime.
Cases of note:-
• Represented a former senior tutor at an elite public school facing multiple allegations of historical sexual abuse dating back to the 1980’s.
• Represented a theatre director facing multiple allegations of historical sexual abuse dating back to the 1970’s.
• Represented an individual facing extradition to Lithuania. The latest test case concerning breaches of assurances by the Judicial Authority and Article 3 of the ECHR.
• Represented an academic facing extradition to Greece. Concerned arguments of corruption and breaches of Article 3 of the ECHR.
• Represented an individual convicted of the notorious and high-profile murder of a British Army Solider for inflicting GBH upon a member of his psychiatric team at Broadmoor Hospital.
• Advised a senior government official in respect of applications brought by the media concerning a family member’s criminal proceedings.
• Assisted in the representation of a director facing allegations of bribery of a public official and conspiring to make corrupt payments in excess of $1 million.
• Assisted in the representation of an ex corporate banker facing allegations of insider dealing. Considered the largest FCA investigation to date.
