Kimeya Baker
Work Department
Kimeya Baker is a commercial disputes associate in Eversheds Sutherland’s London office. Her caseload includes high value international and domestic disputes, often involving allegations of fraud or corruption, and complex contractual and warranty claims. Kimeya also has particular experience in commercial disputes with a Middle Eastern connection, and speaks fluent Persian.
Kimeya currently acts on one of the highest value fraud claims ever brought before the Commercial Court (just under USD$1 billion) (PIFSS v. Al Rajaan & ors [2020] EWHC 2979 (Comm)), as featured in The Lawyer’s Top 20 Cases of 2020. This case concerns allegations of bribery and corruption against a number of prominent defendants, including large financial institutions. Kimeya and her team recently succeeded in dismissing a significant part of claim against their client on jurisdiction grounds; that issue will now be heard before the Court of Appeal.
Kimeya’s other recent experience includes successfully obtaining an $87 million award for one of the world’s largest offshore engineering firms in a litigation involving fraudulent misrepresentation and deceit (IOEC v Dean & ors [2019] 1 WLR 82; [2019] EWHC 472 (Comm); [2020] EWHC 2497 (Comm)), and broadening that judgment to cover the assets of a defendant’s spouse following a further trial in April 2020.
Kimeya has undertaken secondments to Eversheds Sutherland's International Arbitration team in Paris and to the in-house legal team of a Premier League football club. She is a member of Eversheds Sutherland’s diversity group, a legal advisor at the Mary Ward Legal Centre and an Amicus Pro Bono Project volunteer.
