Ian Gascoigne
Work Department
Ian Gascoigne is a partner in the Litigation and Dispute Management Practice Group of Eversheds LLP. He joined the firm as a partner in 1998 and now practises from both the London and Cambridge offices.
He has represented companies involved in disputes in the defence, engineering, financial services, insurance, leisure and manufacturing sectors. These claims have typically arisen from a number of sources including commercial contracts, the sale and purchase of businesses and professional negligence. He also specialises in advising on international jurisdiction and choice of law issues.
In international arbitration he has conducted claims under the International Chamber of Commerce rules (for a global defence company) and for an English investor claimant under UNCITRAL rules before an international arbitration panel sitting in Paris (constituted under an investment protection treaty between the UK and an Eastern European country). In that case, Ian acted as the client’s advocate before the tribunal at the preliminary and final hearings. His most recent arbitration was constituted under the terms of a government contract between a prime and a sub-contractor. Ian led a team of Eversheds' lawyers on this matter.
Long interested in the training and development of lawyers, Ian is a regular lecturer on a range of litigation issues and skills. He is currently responsible for The Eversheds’ Certificate in Dispute Resolution Skills, a training programme aimed at solicitors in their first eighteen months after qualification. He teaches negotiation skills for dispute lawyers on this programme.
Ian also acts as the firm's Training Principal, responsible for overseeing the progress of more than one hundred trainee solicitors during their training contracts.
