Andrew Chandler
Work Department
Andrew is a consultant in our Competition, EU and Regulatory group. He advises on market behavioural competition work, such as inquiries, investigations and competition law compliance, including the impact on pricing and distribution strategies. Andrew regularly advises clients on structuring their agreements for distribution and business expansion to ensure compliance with competition laws, whether through exclusive or selective networks, agency, franchise systems (unit franchise, master franchise and area development agreements), licensing or concessions and on ensuring that their agreements are effective in multiple jurisdictions worldwide.
His recent experience includes:
- advising several retail clients on structuring, drafting and negotiating distribution arrangements for expansion in the UK and across Europe, the Middle East and Asia.
- advising on numerous cartel investigations, including the European Commission's current investigations into Euro interest rate derivatives and commercial vehicles and the OFT's investigations into commercial vehicles, the construction sector and the groceries market.
- advising on the OFT's market study into private motor insurance.
- advising on two separate appeals to the European Court of First Instance against fines imposed by the European Commission in respect of price fixing cartels.
- advising on the structuring, roll out and operation of franchise systems in more than fifty jurisdictions worldwide.
Andrew's clients describe him as having "a natural ability to always reconcile business issues" with his "strong legal expertise." His experience of different sectors includes retail, motor and insurance and he also advises several trade associations. Andrew speaks fluent French.
