Philippa is a Senior Associate in the Insurance team, based in London. Philippa specialises in regulatory and operational issues, together with advice and dispute resolution on coverage and commercial issues.
Philippa's recent work includes:
- reviewing/negotiating the terms of insurance on behalf of lenders to support the provision of financing, including in relation to EUR133million project finance loan facilities for an Ethanol and Renewal Energy Project in Sierra Leone;
- reviewing/advising on policy documentation for the sale of insurance for a leading consumer electronic product in the UK, and managing the project on a multi-jurisdictional basis;
- representing parties in intra-group transfers of life insurance businesses, pursuant to Part VII of FSMA;
- reviewing/negotiating warranty and indemnity policies, and separately, representing an insurer on a claim under its W&I policy;
- advising clients on implications of the Consumer Insurance (Representations and Disclosures) Act, and recommending changes to their documentation;
- advising retailers on the terms of their warranty products to minimise the risk of them being regulated insurance products;
- assisting/advising Brazil's largest reinsurer in relation to its run-off and recommencement of underwriting operations in London;
- representing a UK-based manufacturer in a multi-million dollar arbitration in a coverage dispute against a global insurer, following an award of punitive damages in the USA;
- advising insurers/intermediaries on their strategy for handling claims and complaints in relation to PPI.
