Work Department
John is a Principal Associate who specialises in planning and compulsory purchase law.
He undertakes work for both the private and public sectors dealing and advising on all aspects of proposals, including planning policy, environmental assessment, negotiating of planning and infrastructure agreements, community infrastructure levy, town and village green applications, compulsory purchase and highway matters.
He has advised, or is advising, on the promotion of a series of major projects including:
- The development of the Olympic Park in Stratford including compulsory acquisition of land to facilitate the creation of the Park;
- The re-development of Elephant and Castle in Southwark;
- The development of the Shard and New London Bridge House at London Bridge Station;
- The regeneration of Lewisham town centre through promotion of the Lewisham Gateway mixed-use scheme including compulsory purchase of the land necessary for the development to proceed;
- The promotion of new rail infrastructure, including the new Chiltern rail line between Bicester and Oxford and is currently working on the Government's proposals for the new high speed rail line between London and Birmingham, HS2;
- The major expansion of the port of Dover through the provision of a new terminal and dock;
- Establishment of a new harbour and associated preparatory works for the Hinkley Point 'C' nuclear power station;
- Renewable energy projects including major on and off-shore wind-turbine arrays, and renewable - source power stations;
- A series of major regional mixed use urban regeneration schemes in Nottingham, Leicester, Wigan, Bishops Stortford, Harlow and Hastings;
- Public private sector (PFI) projects for healthcare, education and emergency services.
John also regularly advises investors and occupiers in connection with the acquisition and disposal of both existing developments and development sites.
